๐จ๏ธ Winter Weather Warning & Travel Conditions โ Hancock, NY (Delaware County)
Today & Tonight
โข Snow showers likely; light accumulation (around 1โณ to 3" possible), especially earlier in the day. Roads may be slippery and snow-covered in spots as snow sticks to cold surfaces. ๏ฟผ
โข Temperatures near freezing make black ice possible, especially overnight and on untreated secondary roads. ๏ฟผ
Next Few Days
โข Cold temperatures continue with periodic chances for snow showers. ๏ฟผ
โข Gusty winds at times may reduce visibility and increase drifting on open sections of rural routes. ๏ฟผ
๐ Road Conditions & Advisory Info
โข New York State Department of Transportation (NYSDOT) winter travel information (via 511NY) shows ongoing snow/ice on many state routes where crews are plowing and treating. The advisory message from NYSDOT cautions travelers to avoid travel when winter weather makes driving difficult and to check conditions before heading out. ๏ฟผ
โข Even if major corridors like the Thruway are clearer farther west, local highways and rural roads near Hancock may still be icy or snow-covered, especially early in the day or through overnight hours. ๏ฟผ
โ ๏ธ Winter Travel Tips โ Stay Safe
โข Slow down: Reduced speeds help with traction on slick surfaces.
โข Increase following distances: It takes longer to stop on ice and packed snow.
โข Avoid unnecessary travel: If conditions worsen, staying off the roads is the safest choice.
โข Check the latest before leaving: Use 511NY (NYSDOT) or local weather services to get updated road and weather info.

Youth Bring the Christmas Story to Life in Hancockโs Annual Live Nativity
Holiday spirit swept through Hancock on Saturday December 6th, as more than 3,245 children, families, and community members filled the town square for an unforgettable celebration across the whole day, combining the 17th Annual Parade of Lights, Christmas on the Square, and the communityโs beloved Live Nativity, hosted by the Hazen family. From 2โ8 PM, the Hancock Town Square transformed into a festive winter village glowing with music, lights, laughter, and long-standing traditions. Organizers say this yearโs turnout marks the largest attendance the event has ever seen, a testament to the communityโs resilience and unity with the live Nativity from 2-4PM beginning at the Historic Methodist Church on East Main Street and making its way over to the Town Square in a storied procession.
A Cherished Tradition Lives On: The Hazen Familyโs Live Nativity. Among the dayโs most moving highlights was the Live Nativity, lovingly presented by Connie Hazen and her familyโa tradition theyโve upheld for more than 20 years, with only a brief pause during the COVID years. Youth from across Hancock bundled into robes, cow suits, angel wings, and shepherd cloaks to bring the Nativity story to life against a backdrop of fresh snow and crisp winter air. Despite temperatures well below freezing, the cast remained all smiles, warming their hands at nearby fire pits and enjoying sโmores alongside spectators.
Families gathered to admire the tender scene and appreciate the decades-long dedication the Hazen family have brought to the townโs holiday season. For many, the Nativity is the heart of Hancockโs December festivities. This community shines brightest when we celebrate together.
โค๏ธ Hereโs to many more years of magic on the square. Special thanks to all sponsors, families and participants in this years holiday events! ๐ ๐๐
